Village Survey Results

About the survey…

The essential repair works on site at St Michael and All Angels recently came to an end. This completes phase I of The Daily Bread project and we are busy developing the next phase; to reorder the inside of the building, creating space for an artisan bakery and bringing it back into community use.

We are in discussion with the planning authority regarding Change of
Use and Listed Building Consent to make the necessary alterations that
will allow the Daily Bread to be delivered.

We are very interested in the views of the local community and, between March and April 2019, we undertook a residents survey.

Survey results…

The survey results are attached below:

Thanks…

We really appreciate people taking the time to complete and return the forms.

Your input will help us to shape the project going forwards and to make it a success, providing a long term sustainable future for this important heritage building.

Search for baker underway…

The Daily Bread search for a baker gets underway…

BAcRG Logo

The Daily Bread, a Herefordshire regeneration project, is looking for a baker with a passion for their craft, to help bring a medieval church building back in to community use as an artisan bakery, helping breathe new life into an idyllic rural village.

The Brampton Abbotts Church Regeneration Group (BAcRG CIC) is working in partnership with the Diocese of Hereford to re-purpose the rural medieval church of St Michael’s and All Angels, Brampton Abbotts – turning it into a bakery and community café and welcoming people back to the building for worship at least six times a year.

Regular worship at the church ceased in 2008 because of the poor state of the building and the church was officially closed in 2011. Following extensive consultations with the local community, supported by the Churches Conservation Trust and the Diocese of Hereford, a group of local people formed the BAcRG group and the Daily Bread project was born.

Repairs to the building are currently underway, thanks to funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund and a number of other charitable trusts. Once the repair works are complete BAcRG CIC will look to take on the management of the building on behalf of the community through a long lease.

BAcRG is now looking for a ‘baker partner’ – someone with a passion for baking and a desire to create a successful enterprise in a unique heritage building – one that has stood at the heart of village life for nearly 1000 years.

RRA Architects have drawn up indicative plans for the building’s new layout, a business plan has been developed and BAcRG is keen to talk to bakers who might be interested in operating a commercial artisan bakery and managing the community café at the site.

Stuart Fraser, Chair of BAcRG said:

‘’We are very much open to ideas and would like to get a preferred partner onboard at this early stage of design, to ensure what we develop will achieve our objectives.

There are a variety of business models that could work and we want to hear thoughts and ideas from bakers who might be interested in working with us to deliver a sustainable use for the building.

If people are interested in finding out more and think this could be an opportunity for them we would really like them to get in touch.’’

  • Commercial Baker Partner – Expressions of Interest

Expressions of interest should be submitted to sam@samhine.co.uk by 12 noon on 14th November 2018.

Church Repairs Underway

A hot summer evening, 5th July, saw the launch of the HLF repairs project at St Michael’s, with more than 50 people coming along to find out more, enjoy a drink and something to eat, and to see inside the church for the last time before the long awaited repair works started.

Fred Hamer of RRA Architects, supported by Archdeacon of Hereford Paddy Benson, showed people of all ages around the church, explaining the repairs programme and sharing thoughts on the future of the building and The Daily Bread Project.

Work started at the end of July, with Splitlath, our main works contractor setting up their site, where they will be for the next 6-7 months.

Heritage Activity Plan

As part of the HLF grant we will be undertaking a number of community based projects, including researching and learning more about the history of the church, a medieval Grade II* Listed building that has been at the heart of the village for 800 years.

If you would like to get involved please get in touch. We are looking for people of all ages, people who have some local heritage knowledge and people who know nothing but would like to know more about the history of where they live.

We will be developing leaflets and website content to share so if you have creative writing skills we would also like to hear from you.

The Daily Bread Project

We have recently launched our new website www.thedailybread.org.uk – more information will be added as the project progresses. We will also keep you up to date via Facebook Brampton Abbots Church Regeneration Group page.

We are currently working with RRA Architects to see how best to fit the proposed bakery in to the space available. We are also starting our search for a baker to work with us and help develop the plans further.

If you would like to find out more about either the repairs works or The Daily Bread project please contact Sam Hine, Project Manager, email sam@samhine.co.uk or phone 07974 772840.
