Essential repair works to St Michael & All Angels Church, Brampton Abbotts, Herefordshire, have recently been completed thanks to grants from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) and other funders.
These vital repairs to the building are the first phase of an exciting community regeneration project, known locally as The Daily Bread, which seeks to provide this important heritage building with a sustainable future.
The next stage of the project is to convert the building in to an artisan bakery, pop up café and community facilities for all, with occasional worship throughout the year.
A partnership has formed between the Diocese of Hereford and BAcRG, a local charity set up specifically to take forward the preservation and regeneration of the building, to secure its future as a multi-use resource for the village – returning it to the heart of the community.
The church has been at the centre of village life for 800 years, the Chancel and Nave being 12th Century. The churchyard has a fine collection of Georgian tombs and a medieval churchyard cross, a Schedule 1 Ancient Monument.
Matchfunding for the repairs project came from a number of sources, including Garfield Weston Foundation; National Churches Trust; All Churches Trust; Church Building Council; Rowlands Trust; Lasletts Charity; and Hereford Historic Churches Trust.
BAcRG is now seeking to raise a further £250,000 for the next phase.
